DAYS 1-3 - 90 Mile Beach
Days 1-3 of my trek across the entire length of New Zealand
12 people under the age of 35 die from undiagnosed heart conditions every week; over 624 per year. I want to raise awareness for the potential symptoms of underlying heart conditions so they can be identified and dealt with before they can cause any harm. However, as 80% of young deaths occur with no prior symptoms, I equally want to try and stress to as many young people as possible to get screened even just for piece of mind. The more people I can reach with my cause the more people can be made aware of the risks and avoid a potentially life-altering event.
Of any money that I raise towards CRY, the first £3,500 will go towards supporting CRY's core funding. This is everything that they do as a charity including raising awareness, screening for young people, support for families and individuals, as well as vital research. Following this initial £3,500, all further donations can be ring fenced towards funding screening days for young people.
One screening day, which can screen up to 100 young people under the age of 35, costs £6,800. According to CRY, 1 in 300 young people screened will be identified with a potentially life-threatening cardiac condition. If I can reach my initial target of £10,300, my ultimate aim will be to raise £23,900. This is the exact amount needed to provide CRY with £3,500 towards their core funding on top of the amount needed to finance 3 screening days. 3 screening days, 300 young people, and the likelihood that a life could potentially be saved through the early diagnosis and subsequent treatment of a life-threatening heart condition.

I'm aware these are very ambitious targets. Regardless, I will do absolutely everything in my power to raise as much money as possible, because every penny counts, and just maybe raise enough to potentially prevent the premature loss of a young life. Any donation you can provide, no matter how small, helps us to reach this enormous goal.
However, even if you can't donate, help me spread the word and follow me through my blog and socials - the more people I can reach the more impact we can have on helping this incredible charity make a difference!
